The session also brought together representatives from various industry sectors in support of MSU’s strategic initiative. UPT remains committed to expanding strategic partnerships with more higher learning institutions to further support talent development and industrial training opportunities for students.
We were invited by Persatuan Pemborong Buah-Buahan Kuala Lumpur to a constructive meeting at Customs HQ, together with officers from the Perkastaman Department (KLIA & Port Klang) and the Pernilaian Department, HQ. on 14th Nov 2025.
The session was graciously hosted by Tuan Wong Pun Sian, Pengarah Kastam, JUSA C, Bahagian Perkhidmatan Teknik (HQ). This marks our second round of engagement with the top leadership of Customs in addressing the ongoing challenges related to fresh fruit import valuation and SST implementation.
It was truly a fruitful and meaningful discussion. All parties had the opportunity to exchange insights and work towards narrowing the gap between dynamic market realities and valuation practices by assessment officers.
We are confident that through continuous collaboration, we can:
* Ensure fair taxation while supporting business viability
* Develop efficient clearance processes for perishable goods
* Maintain affordable prices for Malaysian consumers
* Build a sustainable import ecosystem for Malaysia
Together, we look forward to fostering a more transparent, efficient, and supportive environment for the industry and the nation.
Today, representatives from the Kuala Lumpur Fruits Wholesalers Association and major fresh fruit importers met with Mr. Athavan A/L Subramaniam, Deputy Director of Customs (Valuation Branch), Mr. Mohammad Razif bin Yahya, Senior Assistant Director of Customs I, together with their team of officers at Customs Malaysia HQ.
The meeting focused on feedback and improvement requests regarding the import price valuation process, especially after the implementation of 5% SST on fresh fruits effective 1 July 2025.
Key points discussed:
1.) Unrealistic price references.
2.) Payment proof challenges.
3.) Impact on consumers.
We thank Customs Malaysia for their willingness to discuss these issues. A follow-up meeting with the Customs Division (Bahagian Perkastaman) will be arranged to discuss the matter further so that a fair and practical resolution can be achieved for importers, authorities, and consumers alike.
The ISO 9001:2015 Awareness and Internal Auditor Training was successfully conducted to provide participants with a solid understanding of the ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, as well as to equip them with the essential skills needed to perform effective internal audits based on ISO 19011 guidelines.
Throughout the training, participants were introduced to the core principles and structure of ISO 9001:2015, including the process approach and risk-based thinking. They also learned how to interpret the requirements within the context of internal audits, and gained a clear understanding of the audit process from planning to reporting, along with the roles and responsibilities of both internal and lead auditors.
The course included practical workshops, case studies, and role-play audit scenarios to give participants hands-on experience and build their confidence in planning and carrying out internal audits effectively.
