IMPORT VALUATION ISSUES FOR FRESH FRUITS MEETING WITH ROYAL MALAYSIAN CUSTOMS

Today, representatives from the Kuala Lumpur Fruits Wholesalers Association and major fresh fruit importers met with Mr. Athavan A/L Subramaniam, Deputy Director of Customs (Valuation Branch), Mr. Mohammad Razif bin Yahya, Senior Assistant Director of Customs I, together with their team of officers at Customs Malaysia HQ.
The meeting focused on feedback and improvement requests regarding the import price valuation process, especially after the implementation of 5% SST on fresh fruits effective 1 July 2025.
Key points discussed:
1.) Unrealistic price references.
2.) Payment proof challenges.
3.) Impact on consumers.
We thank Customs Malaysia for their willingness to discuss these issues. A follow-up meeting with the Customs Division (Bahagian Perkastaman) will be arranged to discuss the matter further so that a fair and practical resolution can be achieved for importers, authorities, and consumers alike.
